Default WGMS - February 12th, 2009 Meet Information

(copied from another post of mine elsewhere)

First off, thank you very much to all those that are making this possible. Without your interest, something like this wouldn't take off.

Szymek, Juiceworld, JMANCANADIAN, and I didn't see things moving along this quickly when we first initially decided to start things up. We're all very excited and please.

Alright, enough of the corny stuff!

For our February meet, which will be Thursday, February 12th, 2009 at 7PM in Brampton at Juiceworld house, we are going to have our first "guest of honor". Burc from Frag-a-lot has agreed to stop by and doing the first of a series of fraging workshops.

(the actual location of the meet will be PM'd to everyone on the attending list the night before the meet)

He is going to start off small, and talk fragging Zoanthinds. As simple as fragging zoanthinds may be to some, there are still lots of people that don't know a thing, or know just little. He'll go over suggested tools, types of glues, care for them once frag'd, etc.

Also, as a present to the WGMS, Burc has also agreed to bring 2 free frags to the first 20 members who join/attend meets for the WGMS. Before he leaves for the meet, he will check the attendance list, and bring an appropriate amount of frags for the amount of people attending. If you come to the meet last minute, and there wasn't enough frags , no worries, he can bring them to the next meet, and you can get them then.

How the two free frags will work: Burc already has his mind wrapped around which frags he wants to give away for free. If you have seen his site or been to his location/store, you will see there are no "ugly" frags to be had. Each frag will be individually bagged, then two frags , placed in a larger bag. He will then place all the larger bags in a box. When a member arrives, you will simply pull out the top of a bag, and those frags are yours.

The reason it's being done this way, is to give everyone a fair chance at the frags . The first person who picks their bag, has just a good a chance as the last to get just as good frags . Truthfully, it doesn't really matter when you pick your bag, because all his frags are great.

Should you pick a bag that with corals you know your tank isn't set up for, then by all means, find another member who may be will to trade. So essentially, we could have a mini frag swap happening right then and there.

So far, our itinerary at meets has been as such; first checkout the host's tank, discuss it, help answer questions the host might have. The host can hear suggestions from other, etc.

Then we'll have Burc show us a thing or two about fragging Zoa's.

Seeing as we have a nice list of interested people to attend so far, I would like for myself, szymek, JMANACANADIAN, and Juiceworld, to introduce ourselves, and the intentions we've had in mind when starting the WGMS. Our future plans like where we want to see the WGMS go, etc.

After that, we're free to relax for a bit, and discuss whatever aquarium topics we have in mind.

All-in-all, the meets have usually went on for about 2 to 3 hours. Just so you know.

So far, from our February meet discussion thread (found here: http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/sh...ad.php?t=35969), here is the current attendance list:

Current Attendance List:
1. fishfood
2. Juiceworld
3. szymek
4. JMANCANADIAN
5. Ken Baird
6. ksalt
7. Frankthetank
8. rsisman
9. pdhenderson
10. daveyboy685
11. soups
12. GIJOE
13. Kbreef

When coming to the meet, by all means feel free to bring yourself a bottle of water, etc. We are working on in the near future, supplying some refreshments. But for now, we ask you bring your own.

I think that's it for now. Should I have missed something, I will add it to this thread.

The list is growing, only 4 more people will qualify for Frag-a-lot's special club initation treat of two free frags. It's going to be a goodie bag with one SPS and one Zoa. If you have a Zoa only tank, maybe you can trade someone your SPS, for their Zoa.

Once again, the meet will be held in Brampton, at Juiceworld's house, will start at 7pm, and the address and such will be PM'd to you shortly before the meet.
