Asterina starfish population explosion

Hey all,

The number of asterinas in my tank has exploded lately. They are definitely targeting my zoas and palys, and my Utter Chaos colony is apparently their favorite. My Toadstool hasn't had polyp extension for 3 days and I just found 4 asterinas on the stalk.

Has anyone had success in eradicating them? I've read that a Harlequin Shrimp can knock down their numbers.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Definitely keep your eye on the stars as they can do some zoa damage
It's worth a shot to try a Harlequin but I had a mated pair and they preferred chocolate chip or sand sifting stars
The problem with asterinas is that they propagate by splitting (therefore the odd shapes and missing legs) so you need to eradicate 100 % of the population or you will never get rid of all of them
You can also use tongs and grab them by hand but talk about tedious ...
Good luck
