Has anyone here used a reactor with De-nitrate in it? If so is it effective and anything else you would recommend to remove Nitrates.

Plants and cichlid's dont mix, so thats not an option for me. Im doing 50% water changes every week and still have high nitrates.
That's a sign that your bioload is too high.

I think some plants can work with cichlids. You can give hornwort, duckweed, and frogbit a try.

You can also try growing plants in a HOB filter. Plants like pothos and dracaena sanderiana (lucky bamboo) do well in water (emersed, not submerged!). With a little work, you can even setup a full-blown hydroponic system.
