when you have once of a certain kind of fish in a tank with other fish and it dies, do you replace it with the same type of fish or pick another?

I had a festivum that would eat snails out of my hand who died months ago and I have thought of getting another but I don't think I want to.

I had a rainbow shark who grew to full size, died and I replaced it, the replacement also died after reaching full size, haven't replaced it again.

So, do you guys replace with the same or different usually when its a single fish of its type?

I think it's really a very personal decision. If the fish was one you really liked, maybe having a different one would be better, not remind you of the loss so much, but then, if you really like the species, why not have another one ? It won't be the same as the one you lost, most likely.

I tend to stick to the same fish, unless I think the death might be related to the tank conditions in some way.. the decor, the other fish, that sort of thing, in which case I might try another fish species, in case the conditions simply did not suit the one that died.

too many fish not enough tanks.. will always be true.. There are soo many different fish I would like to keep, I'll never get to keep them all. but there will be some along the way i'm sure i'll keep more than once.

Though fortunately I've not lost many to deaths

I had goldfish when I first start. When they past away, I changed to topical fish for few years. Than after most of them die. I switch back to goldfish again. and I think I will stay with goldfish.
I mean stay with the species you like.
