from my understanding, I think most shell dwellers are usually pretty easy to breed - caring for the fry might be a lot harder. might be more expensive because they are rare in the hobby. not a lot of people keep them or know about the species.

on another note, finatics always has great quality stock. they might be a bit more expensive but the fish usually have great colors and are very healthy.

ocellatus are not so easy to breed, they like to kill each other off. I had 8 2 months ago.. 5 were killed off. 1 pair actually did spawn and I had some wigglers but they disappeared and with them so did the pair bond. I haven't seen that female in a week.. not sure if she is still alive.. I got 3 big ones from Mike, hoping I chose females.. hard to tell.

Ocellatus are not like brevis or multis

this is big news for me ....:(

I did not have before cichlids. can you tell me, please, then how many pieces better to buy and whom? I do not like war and murder. I want to keep everyone happy. I have a 75 gallon aquarium and live there 3 white mollies (1 m, 2 f) and 2 small red parrots. I plan to settle:

1 Ancistrus dolichopterus

Telmatochromis temporalis.....how many?

6 Gold Ocellatus or how many?

1 Altolamprologus calvus Black Pectoral or Altolamprologus comp. "Sumbu" Shell - 1 m and 1 f

in these photos my tank was 2 days. that suggest?

temporalis... none if you want peace, think these are typically recommended for species only tanks. (BTW have you found some of these locally?)
Gold ocellatus in a 75 get 6 and hope you get 1 male and rest are females
Any that get picked on and chased into the top corners will need to be removed.

Visit cichlid-forum.com and read the species profiles before you buy...

There are more peaceful shell dwellers available.

I read a variety of sources and it was written that all individual and depends on the bottom area. but I do not want to risk it. besides fish rare and expensive. but for me it's more a problem of choice. do not even know who they like more. I'm in no hurry to buy, so there is time to think about it. worry only like their red parrots won't Other fish
