Please take the time to educate yourself on the realities of keeping turtles. Understand they will live for decades and will need very large tanks (not to mention specialized lighting and filtration) as they grow. They really do not make ideal pets.

Just following up on what Greg said, turtles are some of the easiest adult animals to acquire for free because many people buy $20 turtles from the store and don't realize that they easily grow to 1 foot giants with large and expensive care requirements. Please consider if this is within your budget and life-plans. Owning a turtle is a 10+ year commitment.
