Hello hello,

As a young child I had a Black Moor Goldfish which met an unfortunate end when the bowl was dropped during a water change. I was no older than four and I remember it clearly; that's likely why it took more than forty years for me to try again.

Last February I was bored and got a super-delta Betta in a 1.7 gallon tank. He's now in a 10 gallon which he seems to love having all to himself (well, it's my nursery tank -- he shares it with lots of plants in tiny clay pots). I now have a total of seven tanks ranging from two to twenty-nine gallons and have three bettas, three gardneri killifish, seven ember tetras and a collection of cherry and amano shrimp. The 29 gallon tank is still cycling but I will likely fill it with tiny schooling fish (add to my ember tetras and hopefully these green dwarf rasboras if I can ever find them.

All my tanks are planted and filtered. Most of my temps seem fine without heaters, in fact I had problems when I had the heaters in … could the motors from the internal filters be warming the water given how small the tanks are? We keep the condo fairly warm but the tanks are usually warmer and the sun is not the cause.

Anyway, that's my aquatic intro. I had some questions I couldn't find answers for through Google so I figured I would join a forum; this one seemed well-run, active and informative, so here I am … I am glad to finally get let in here ... it took a while. Seems a bit like Fort Knox but I am guessing there are reasons for that.
